Artificial Turf/Synthetic Grass*, updated 2025
*In October 2015, Assembly Bill 1164 was signed into law prohibiting local jurisdictions from disapproving artificial turf or synthetic grass in residential neighborhoods. In October 2023, Senate Bill 676 was signed into law, repealing the prohibition and restoring a local municipality’s right to regulate artificial turf/synthetic grass in residential neighborhoods. It is the policy of the Community Planning & Building Department to prohibit the use of artificial turf or synthetic grass citywide. See Policy 2025-02 and City Council Resolution 2025-027.
