Security Camera Registration

Post

Video surveillance has proven to be one of the most effective methods for apprehending and convicting subjects who are caught in the act of committing a crime.

The Carmel By The Sea Police Department is asking residents and local businesses to join our new CAPTURE Program, a confidential registry of privately owned security cameras.

If you have video security cameras, we would like to encourage you to register the location and capabilities of your camera with us.

We would like to re-emphasize this is a voluntary registry. Your personal and security information will be confidential and not for public dissemination.

How does the Program work?

Using the geographic locations of the registered cameras, the Police Department will be able to directly contact residents or businesses in an area in which a crime occurred.

The Department may ask owners to check their video surveillance system for a specific date and time for video which could contribute to identifying an individual or vehicle. If any video evidence is found, the video owner would contact the Department to make arrangements for video retrieval.
