The problems of misinformation and disinformation are not new, but their impact is often underestimated and will likely only increase with the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI). From falsehoods posted on social media sites to the polarization of news sources, the dangers of undetected and uncontested misinformation in the media have real world consequences, including social unrest and even violence. As media consumers, it can be difficult to discern what information is genuine and which sources to trust.

One solution currently gaining attention in the education community is to include media literacy in school curriculums, teaching students to apply critical thinking skills and fact check information. Join University of Washington professor and co-founder of the Center for an Informed Public, Jevin West, as he addresses the issue of misinformation and provides strategies to discern genuine information from falsehoods.
