The mission of the Public Works Department is to provide and maintain public infrastructure, services, facilities, and equipment that contribute to the health, safety, and well-being of the community in an efficient and cost-effective manner with minimal detrimental effects on the environment.​

Modeled after the American Society of Civil Engineer’s nation-wide Infrastructure Report Card, the Public Works Report and Infrastructure Report Card reviews the condition of six (6) key infrastructure components across the City:

• Streets and Pavement
• Drainage System
• Facilities
• Fleet
• Forests/Parks
• Beach/Shoreline

School grades from A to F were assigned to each infrastructure component. These grades were compared to last year’s baseline year to track progress. Costs for rehabilitating infrastructure increase as infrastructure decays; therefore, reviewing the state of the infrastructure each year is essential for maintaining it at a reasonably satisfactory level to be economical in the long run.​

Overall, the City’s infrastructure has improved  and is at a C+ (fair), which indicates we are moving in the right direction.
