Check out the repaving project schedule.
Ocean Avenue will be repaved September 24-28
Starting first thing Monday morning, September 24, the City and our contractor, MPE, will begin major reconstruction activities along Ocean Avenue, between Junipero Avenue and Monte Verde Street.
Over the past two weeks, preparation work was completed including filling in all five mid-block median gaps, constructing another accessibility ramp, making sidewalk repairs, and lowering utility covers. After next week’s major reconstruction, there will be two to three more weeks (through mid-October) of similar, minor work to complete the project. The updated construction schedule can be found below.
- MONDAY/TUESDAY: Work begins at the Intersection of Ocean and Junipero Avenues starting followed by pavement grinding and repaving of the westbound lanes to Monte Verde. No parking on the westbound side of Ocean Avenue.
- WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY: Grinding and paving work will be in reverse (heading east) along the eastbound lanes. No parking on the eastbound side of Ocean Avenue.
- FRIDAY: Temporary traffic stripes and parking tees will be in place.
Please be advised that all next week, downtown will have traffic detours in place around closed intersections, and those detours may change every few hours. All businesses and sidewalks will remain open and accessible. Please avoid driving in the downtown area if you can, and allow more time to pass through in detours.
The City recognizes that there will be inconvenience to downtown businesses and shoppers – which is possibly why the last known repaving project along Ocean Avenue was in 1961! The City has planned this work out with the contractor to minimize these impacts.
