Media Literacy in the Age of Misinformation
Carmel High School, Performing Arts Theater
Join the Carmel Public Library Foundation, in collaboration with the Carmel Unified School District, for Media Literacy in the Age of Misinformation. University of Washington Professor and Co-founder of the Center for an Informed Public Jevin West will address the impact and influence of AI and media misinformation–and what we as a community can do to address those concerns.
The problems of misinformation and disinformation are not new, but their consequences are often underestimated and will likely only increase with the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI). From falsehoods posted on social media sites to the polarization of news sources, the dangers of undetected and uncontested misinformation in the media have real world results, including social unrest and even violence. As media consumers, it can be difficult to discern what information is genuine and which sources to trust.
Thank you to the Media Literacy Coalition, whose mission is to heighten awareness of the critical need for media literacy—the ability to differentiate between fact and disinformation in all forms of media—and to provide the educational resources required to carry out that mission.
