Literary Luminaries: Six Trailblazing Writers Who Shaped Carmel
Reading Room, Harrison Memorial Library
Jack London, Upton Sinclair, Mary Austin, Robinson Jeffers, George Sterling, Sinclair Lewis: As writers, they found artistic refuge and inspiration in Carmel and they, in turn, revealed its unique charm to the world through their work. How did the lives of these writers—most of whom went on to make national and international reputations—intertwine and contribute to the spirit of Carmel?
Join writer, publisher, and literary detective, Vince Emery, as he explores the legacy of literary Carmel using the writers’ own words and works of art, handwritten manuscripts, unseen photos, and other items from the library collection to illustrate the surprising stories of these authors. Artifacts from the collection of the Henry Meade Williams Local History Department at the Carmel Public Library will be on exhibit.
