4/22: 10am-5pm Earth Day: Kick Butts Out of Carmel
When: Wed Apr 22, 2015

Event Status: confirmed
Event Description: Help to “Kick Butts Out of Carmel” by joining volunteers who will be picking up cigarette butts in Carmel’s commercial district on Earth Day, Wednesday April 22. The reason for the project is to highlight the fact that too many cigarette butts are being deposited on our streets and gutters and then get washed into the storm drains. Here is the plan: Sustainable Carmel is partnering with Stephen Ferry (who runs The Art of Dr. Seuss Gallery) to organize volunteers to collect cigarette butts in the City. Meet any time that day at the Gallery, obtain collection equipment and your assigned territory. Deliver your collected butts back to the gallery. Sustainable Carmel will then prepare a report (with photographs of the collection) to send to the City to encourage action to install cigarette butt receptacles in town. When: any time from 10 am to 5 pm on Wednesday April 22. Where: meet at The Art of Dr. Suess Gallery, on San Carlos St, between 5th and 6th Streets. Parking is tight, so carpool with your buddies. There is free parking near the police station near Junipero and 4th Streets. Here is a map:,-121.9211529,17z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x84e28ab49853d00a What you will get: collection gear, a release to sign, and a good feeling from contributing to the removal of these unsightly and toxic things What to bring: your own gloves RSVP: please respond to this email if you wish to participate. That way, we will know how much territory to assign to people. Many many thanks to everyone who comes out for these events.
