The City of Carmel-by-the-Sea and the American Institute of Architects, Monterey Bay Chapter invite you to participate in the 63rd Annual Great Sandcastle Contest.  

This year’s event takes place on Saturday, September 19, 2026.  This year’s theme is “It Never Gets Old:  Carmel at 110,” celebrates the 110th Birthday of the City’s incorporation.  Building can begin at 7:00 a.m., with judging commencing at 12:00 p.m. and awards presented close to 1:00 p.m.  The building boundaries are on the beach at Scenic between 10th & 12th.

You can use shovels, rakes, and buckets to assist in your building, but only items found on the beach can be incorporated into your final sandcastle.

This event is free and open to the public (all sandcastle-building skill levels can participate).  No pre-registration is required.  On the day of the event, look for the tent on the beach at 11th to register and pick up your entry number.
