Significant energy savings in City facilities
City Facilities LED Lighting Retrofit
The City worked with the Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments (AMBAG) to replace all fluorescent lighting fixtures inside City facilities with LEDs. LEDs are much more efficient, last longer, and do not become hazardous waste when we have to replace a bulb.
Over 800 fixtures were replaced in City buildings, including the two Libraries, City Hall, the Public Works and Police building, Norton Court Parking Garage, Vista Lobos, the Fire Station, and public bathrooms.
Streetlight LED Retrofits
PG&E retrofited 17 safety cobra-head streetlights with 15W LED lights. These LED lights were selected by City Council and Planning Commission after the installation of 3 pilot lights and a public review process to determine the best light choice for Carmel. The selected lights have the warmest and dimmest light level of the choices provided by PG&E. These safety streetlights provide lighting at Del Mar Parking lot as well as several intersections in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
